Mountain Hares

Mountain hares are protected by the Wildlife & Countryside Act 1981, which makes it illegal intentionally or recklessly to kill or injure a mountain hare during its close season, or to poach at any time. Mountain hares may however be lawfully controlled and this usually takes place on managed grouse moors to reduce tick numbers or protect young trees.
